Except it happens with pretty much *everyone* I talk to. And not just friends or the like, but work, family, school etc. etc. Does that mean no one in the country knows what they want except me? I doubt it.

Hey, I'm in the same boat when it comes to relating to people. I hate dealing with others becaue I don't know what they want, because they don't know what they want. And yes, it seems like everyone is that way.
I try not to worry about what I cannot control in others, and worry about legitimate problems I cause.

Ah yes, those old conundrums; I'm willing to bet that if you didn't join them for dinner they'd yell at you for being a shut in. The only advice I can say is that nothing you do will please people, so screw them.
