For the first time, federal officials, under President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, have the authority to stop paying providers they suspect are swindlers. Critics have complained that the old process did nothing more than rubber-stamp payments to providers.
“That world is coming to an end,” Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told The Associated Press after speaking at a health care fraud prevention summit in Miami. “We’ve got new ways to go after folks that we’ve never had before.”
Thank god for Obama, eh.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/health-news/2010/07/18/tory-donor-s-firm-will-make-millions-from-nhs-shake-up-115875-22421239/A private health firm is set to rake in millions from a shake-up of the NHS - eight months after the boss's wife donated £21,000 to Tory health secretary Andrew Lansley.
Care UK expects to earn a fortune in the biggest reform of the NHS for 60 years as private companies win a lucrative role in providing services to local GPs.
As one of the UK's biggest healthcare providers, it already runs GP surgeries, NHS walk-in centres and cares for half a million people a year.
And Mr Lansley faces accusations of a conflict of interest for accepting a donation from the wife of John Nash, chairman of Care UK at the time of the donation.
The row comes amid warnings that Mr Lansley's shake-up will cost thousands of jobs and represents a giant gamble with the nation's health.
There is also mounting anger that not a word of his plans was put before voters at the election.
Nor was it mentioned in the Tories' coalition agreement with the Lib Dems. That's the Tories for ya.

It was satirical, but yeah I say that. It's a part of popular lexicon. When I want to annoy people I say "Thank Athe".

I'm pretty sure nobody actually like gets down and prays to their lord every time they say "Thank god for that!". It's just a turn of phrase.

www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/25/saber-kushour-rape-deception-charge"I am paying the price for a mistake that she made," Kushour, 30, told the Observer. "I was shocked at the sentence – it shows a very vivid and clear racism." The message from the judge, he says, was that "because you are an Arab and you didn't make that clear, we are going to punish you".
In his verdict, Judge Zvi Segal conceded that it was not "a classical rape by force". He added: "If she hadn't thought the accused was a Jewish bachelor interested in a serious romantic relationship, she would not have co-operated. The court is obliged to protect the public interest from sophisticated, smooth-tongued criminals who can deceive innocent victims at an unbearable price – the sanctity of their bodies and souls."i42.tinypic.com/21acrnk.gif

uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE66Q3IP20100727Support for the Liberal Democrats has slumped after they joined a coalition government while the Labour Party is enjoying a revival in its ratings, an Ipsos MORI poll for Reuters showed on Tuesday.
Only 14 percent said they would vote Lib Dem, down five percentage points from the previous month, and a decline of around a third since the general election in May.
The Conservatives, the senior coalition party, were backed by 40 percent of those certain to vote, up one point on the previous month, while Labour gained seven points to 38 percent...
...A ComRes poll for the BBC's Newsnight programme on Monday showed four in 10 people who voted Lib Dem in May said they would not done so if they had known the party was going to join a coalition with the Conservatives.VINDICATION.
