26. Amber Alert Website Taken Offline - CNN reported that bad press was a factor in the site going back up.
Why would White House chefs and Obama's golf course be categorized as "essential," while the government classified as "non-essential" the Amber Alert website?
Of course, this is the same Obama threatening to veto cancer treatments for children.
27. Miramar Air Show Canceled With One-Day Notice -“The emotional and economic impacts of losing this year’s event are great, and I’m extremely disappointed in the political dysfunction that brought us to this point,” Gloria said.
"Proceeds from the event go to programs that support families of military personnel, he said."
28. At Start of Peak Season, Shutdown Closes Peaks of Otter Lodge - The GOP have agreed to compromise and fund the parks. Obama has threatened a veto.
29. Federal Prison Guards Not Getting Paid, Inmates Are - "Most of the employees at the federal prison in Forrest City are working without knowing when they will get a paycheck because of the government shutdown, but some of the inmates who get paid for the work they do inside will have no problem collecting their money."
30. Family that Paid $2,000 for Permit Not Allowed to Raft - "Sorry for the inconvenience," it read...The GOP have agreed to fund the parks. Obama has threatened a veto.
31. Although Privately Funded, Historic Ford's Theater Closed - "Ford's Theatre, which is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, does not use any federal funding or federal employees for its performances. During previous government shutdowns, the theatre has continued performances."
32. King Crab Season Threatened by Government Shutdown - "The Alaska king crab season is set to start soon, but all the fishing boats will have to stay docked because the government must sign off on permits and quotas.
"Fisherman stand to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars unless lawmakers make a compromise."
Obama's golf course is open. So is the website for Michelle Obama's "Let's Move."
33. Children Might Lose School Lunches - The White House chefs have not been furloughed.

'All about power and leverage' -- feds shut down major roadway, block access to graveyard
Folks who live in the Great Smoky Mountains have just about reached their breaking point with the federal government.
“It’s almost like they are pushing to see how far they can push before the American people say enough is enough,” said Ed Mitchell, the mayor of Blount County, Tenn. “We were founded on a declaration of independence. And they are about to push the people to the line again.”
The National Park Service also closed the Foothills Parkway, a major thoroughfare in the county. The closure came without warning...and left the school district scrambling to alert parents that they would need to find a way to get their kids back home. And until the partial government shutdown ends, school buses will not run. That means parents will have to transport their children to and from school using treacherous “white knuckle routes.”
Local businesses are also facing tough times...And so long as the shutdown is in effect – that means no fishing, hiking, horse-back riding, or camping inside the park.
“That’s a slap in the face to the American people,” Mitchell said. “They should have never, ever let this happen.”
One of the areas shut down is the popular Cades Cove – an old community that was donated by local residents to the federal government some 75 years ago, the mayor said.
“Hundreds of families gave up that land, packed up their stuff and moved out to give the country that park,” he said. ‘Now, they’re watching the government shut the gate on it.”
Even more insulting is the National Park Service won’t allow family members to visit old grave sites.
“Some of them have family members buried there,” the mayor said. “And they go and visit every week at the churches still in the cove. They are not able to do that.”
It’s gotten to the point where Mayor Mitchell said Americans are ready to start fighting back.
“It’s almost like they are pushing to see how far they can push before the American people say enough is enough,” he said.
“We were willing to open that park up at no cost to the federal government,” he said. “We worked out a plan. That park could be running today just as efficiently as if the federal government had it up and running.”
He never heard back from the feds or his state’s congressional delegation.
“I’m not so sure any of them care anymore,” said the self-identified conservative Republican mayor. “Before you start hearing from the federal government, something has to happen to make them care.”
Local residents have become so frustrated they actually devised a plan to circumvent the feds.
“We already had the codes on the gates and we were getting ready to open it up without notifying them,” the mayor said. “Wiser heads prevailed.”
The mayor said he wanted to “make them aware that we were willing to do what they were not. We were willing to serve the people that they were not willing to serve.”
I asked the mayor if he felt like local residents were getting ready to fight back. He agreed.
“I hate that it’s come to this,” he said. “This whole thing is all about power and leverage.”

Iwo Jima Memorial Closed, Barricades Erected (Update: Vets Break Through)
Another open-air memorial in the Washington area is closed and barricaded off: the Iwo Jima Memorial, just across the bridge from D.C. in Rosslyn, Virginia.
The stop is a popular destination for veterans and tourists alike, and, in my observation, is usually completely unmanned and unguarded. But, for some reason, it's closed to the public during this federal government shutdown.
www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/10/07/Obama-Admin-Will-Allow-Amnesty-Rally-on-National-Mall-During-Govt-Shutdown
The Obama administration will allow a massive rally for comprehensive immigration reform on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. on the National Mall, even though it is supposed to be closed due to the federal government shutdown.
Open-air spaces like the World War II Memorial have been barricaded since the federal government shut down last week, but an organizer for the rally told the Washington Examiner that the National Park Service will allow the rally and march.
blog.heritage.org/2013/10/07/obama-needlessly-scares-seniors-social-security-checks-and-the-debt-limit/
President Obama is needlessly scaring seniors by suggesting that their Social Security benefit checks may not arrive on time if the U.S. runs out of borrowing authority at the debt limit. The 57 million Americans who receive Social Security benefits should know that their benefits will not be affected—unless President Obama and the Treasury deliberately choose not to pay them.
At what point is Obama going to take a swing at a senior citizen? He's already not acting any different than other con artists who prey on them.

The second week of Obamacare enrollment started a lot like the first: with error messages.
Glitches continued crippling online enrollment in new Obamacare exchanges on Monday, despite assurances by the White House that the consumer experience would markedly improve this week.
Attempts by POLITICO reporters to log into the system and peruse health plan options were met with a variety of error messages and failures. At times, the system malfunctioned during log-in attempts. Other times reporters could log in smoothly. But after the log-in, the systems’ identity verification procedures prevented access to the menu of available health insurance options.

In what the Chicago Tribune rightly called "a stunning public admission" openly homosexual Democratic State Representative Greg Harris of Chicago, outright admitted in a public debate that the proposed law in Illinois redefining marriage did NOT provide religious liberty or conscience protections for individual Christian business owners.
The article continued, saying that "it was clear that both he and homosexual Chicago Alderman Deb Mell (a former state representative and co-sponsor of SB 10) oppose any such protections."
I want you to read what Chai R. Feldblum, a professor of Law at Georgetown Law School, and an Obama appointee to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), has to say:
"I believe the burden on religious people that will be caused by granting gay people full equality will be justified. . . That is because I believe granting liberty to gay people advances a compelling government interest, that such an interest cannot be adequately advanced if 'pockets of resistance' to a societal statement of equality are permitted to flourish, and hence that a law that permits no individual exceptions based on religious beliefs will be the least restrictive means of achieving the goal of liberty for gay people."
Religious liberty is a guaranteed right under the US Constitution; gay marriage obviously is not. Yet in left speak, our constitutionally guaranteed religious liberty to live out our faith in our daily lives is a "pocket of resistance" to a "compelling government interest" to establish a "societal statement of equality!"

How did America get to the point where the IRS is targeting conservative groups?
Three premier conservative lawyers cited campaign finance laws and a cultural acceptance of beating up on conservatives as factors in the Internal Revenue Service’s recent attacks on free speech and targeting of conservative groups.
“It started specifically because I think it’s part of the way in our culture that it’s OK to beat up on conservatives,” said Cleta Mitchell of Foley & Lardner at a recent Heritage Foundation event. She continued, “This is what happens when you depart from the rule of law…this is lawlessness.” Mitchell specializes in advising nonprofits and issue organizations on compliance and financial disclosure issues. She represents numerous groups that experienced prolonged waiting periods to receive tax-exempt status from the IRS.
“How did the IRS get into this business in the first place? What I want to suggest, of course, is that it has been a very conscious effort over a long period of time by folks in the campaign finance reform regime,” said Bradley Smith of the Center for Competitive Politics.
Smith spoke on the effort by the left to silence political speech following the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision with the introduction of the DISCLOSE Act. “Chuck Schumer when he introduced this, the lead sponsor of this bill, said, ‘The purpose of this bill is to deter the other side,’”
