news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100822/ap_on_re_us/us_taj_mahal_schoolsAt RFK, the features include fine art murals and a marble memorial depicting the complex's namesake, a manicured public park, a state-of-the-art swimming pool and preservation of pieces of the original hotel.
Partly by circumstance and partly by design, the Los Angeles Unified School District has emerged as the mogul of Taj Mahals.
The RFK complex follows on the heels of two other LA schools among the nation's costliest — the $377 million Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, which opened in 2008, and the $232 million Visual and Performing Arts High School that debuted in 2009.
Over 20 years, the project grew to encompass a dance studio with cushioned maple floors, a modern kitchen with a restaurant-quality pizza oven, a 10-acre park and teacher planning rooms between classrooms.
The 1,700-student arts school was designed as a landmark, with a stainless steel, postmodernistic tower encircled by a rollercoaster-like swirl, while the RFK site involved 15 years of litigation with historic preservationists and Donald Trump, who wanted to build the world's tallest building there. The wrangling cost $9 million.
The pricey schools have come during a sensitive period for the nation's second-largest school system: Nearly 3,000 teachers have been laid off over the past two years, the academic year and programs have been slashed. The district also faces a $640 million shortfall and some schools persistently rank among the nation's lowest performing.
Nationwide, dozens of schools have surpassed $100 million with amenities including atriums, orchestra-pit auditoriums, food courts, even bamboo nooks. The extravagance has led some to wonder where the line should be drawn and whether more money should be spent on teachers.Another reason California is deep in the red.

Wait...Laharlseo responded here. He does care ^___^ news.yahoo.com/s/ucmg/20100824/cm_ucmg/abasichumanrighttoobamacareUnder President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the United States for the first time joined the U.N.'s Human Rights Council. this week his administration submitted for the first time a review of the human rights situation in the U.S. to the council. Many have criticized it for sounding too apologetic about Americans' human rights record.
To the American ear, long-schooled to recognize rights as individual freedoms guaranteed by government, not goodies subsidized by taxpayers, the oddest note is the long paean to Obamacare in the middle of this official report on alleged human rights:
"On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. The Act makes great strides toward the goal that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. ... The law will also help our nation reduce disparities and discrimination in access to care that have contributed to poor health. For example, African Americans are 29 percent more likely to die from heart disease than non-Hispanic whites. Asian American men suffer from stomach cancer 114 percent more often than non-Hispanic white men. ... The Act will reduce disparities like these through access to preventive services; investment in chronic disease control and prevention; enhanced data collection."
Does the president really believe that Obamacare is a basic human right? If a new Congress retools this deeply unpopular bill, does he suggest to the council we are now violating international human rights standards?Enough is ENOUGH! *angry espeonn* The report laments that "housing discrimination by income" is permitted in most places in AmericaI face discrimination because I can't afford a new car. It must be the salesman's fault. The proposal by U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., to establish a special federal right to "adequate housing" for children is warmly applauded -- only the report also urges expanding the definition of "child" up to age 25, since many young adults are still youths, "psychosocially" speaking.I hate stuff like this...it's like a backdoor to establish these stupid policies. Because who would dare hate kids?

Having read the Bible I decided to look at another version I have called The People's Bible...
It's so terribly obsessed with multiculturalism they literally had over 100 pages of introduction explaining what the Bible means to almost every culture you can think of. Then for the notes in the Book of Exodus they compared capitalism and the globalized economy to Pharaoh's enslavement of the Israelites. One of the editors is a blatant Marxist. Aaaand he just compared Castro to Moses.
One of them takes offense that some pagans are referred to as "temple prostitutes" saying it'd be more politically correct to call them "holy women" thus getting rid of Jewish religious intolerance in the text...except that in many of the instances they really were temple prostitutes.
One comment is against private land ownership because it's "God's property" and we just pollute it. And it hates the constant class struggle too. Aww sadface.
I'll complain some more as stuff comes up.

You have a right to get health care, not a right to health care.

You have a right to get health care, not a right to health care. That's... utterly moronic.
