Spider-Man and the Green Goblin!
He trusts a guy in a goblin suit, who he just met, to go halfway around the country with him and shoot a movie. We learn of some new Spider-Man abilities, EXPANDING CHEST and the ability to breathe underwater twice as long.

Spider-Man Annual with the Sinister Six! Big enough to have a fight with six villains (not as rushed as expected), bonus stuff about the villains, Parker's past, drawing the whole thing, and full-page illustrations. Gratuitous plugs for other Marvel characters. For example, "Wow, Thor flew by!" for 2 panels *"Thor is in this comic and that comic! Ed."
Spidey is strong. Only the Thing, Thor and the Hulk can beat his (teenage) strength! Also, a half inch of webbing could make Thing a prisoner for life!
Uh...gonna have to question that one. Considering that other villains have already snapped his webbing, and Mr. Fantastic has the strength to outstretch and snap the webs within the same demonstration.

The second matchup with the Green Goblin is well done, everything in Peter's life hits the fan. Next issue is big smilin' Jameson.

Spider vs Scorpey
Someone is following Pete home. The best thing to do, as you talk about concealing your identity, is stare at him through the window as you reveal your costume!
Choice quote: "It's no trick to follow someone silently when you've got the power of a thousand spiders!"

Spider-Man vs. THE CLOWN
This is another respectable front page entry, listing the various circus freaks that Spidey will be beating up this issue. Like the Enforcers, they try to hype up a circus group into a big threat - and these are non-powers people. The only real dangerous one is Ringmaster for his hypnotism, but the group kicks him out in the first few pages and Snake Lady says put THE CLOWN in charge! His first big heist as leader involves being a clown while other people do the stealing. The rascal!

The first Spider Slayer, which is more like a Spider Capturer, and the name doesn't exist yet. Mary Jane appears to throw another wrench into Peter's girl troubles, though we don't see her face yet. Osborn also shows up, not by name.

Spidey fights the Molten Man in his first, and one of the last, "Marvel Pop Art" books. They tried and failed to rebrand away from being called Marvel Comics. Molten Man has powerful punches and Spider-Man can't hurt him...but did you try wearing him out from his normal human stamina?

Spider-Man's second matchup with the Scorpion. Good fight, Jameson is also at his best (worst).

Spidey vs the Master Planner and his feats of strength to save Aunt May. This should be a bit tipoff as to his identity on its own. At the same time, he repays a debt to Foswell by giving him a scoop, while taking pictures nearby. This, a few issues after he was too afraid to sell crime photos to Jameson because Foswell was around and he didn't want to raise suspicions. This time he does it no problem, after taking a big interest in Aunt May. Huh? Foswell's secret identity as "Patch" is a silly one. He wears a mask of a guy with an eyepatch and goes running to the phones whenever something's up in the underworld. This may work as far as snitching #1 goes, but doesn't word get out? Patch also asks Spider-Man for credit after sending another tipoff his way...credit to who? Spidey doesn't know it's Foswell...and if he wants credit to go to Patch, doesn't that out him?

Kraven sprays a jungle scent on Spider-Man which will weaken his spider sense. As an adult nerd who thinks about these things now, I would like to know why he assumed this and why it worked.

Norman Osborn is a dick from the start. They didn't really make it subtle that he was a bad guy, and he has the strength to punch out Spider-Man before we know who he is.
All done with Omnibus 1 - but good for me, I got the second one!

Ditko rejected the first idea for the Goblin's origin: ancient demon awakened by archaeologists. Didn't want to go into full fantasy mode where nothing was impossible. See the Spider-verse, maximum clonage and earth-616!

Jameson-Son gets space cooties from his shuttle field trip. How do you stop super-powered space spores? Kick him into a power plant and electrocute them out of him.
Science!
