C) The Aspen Country Lodge for Furry and Neko individuals
After you get off the phone with your Uncle, and throw a few of your scant possessions into a suitcase, you curl up in bed with a stupid grin on your face. Issac even offered to give you a few weeks rent right away so your roomie will have plenty of time to find a new flatmate and you can fly out right away. This job must be really important to him, you reflect with the lights off. You don't know how well you'll really do, just dropping into the lodge in the middle of the day and getting right into the manager's chair, but you resolve to do your utmost to make the situation work. For you, the opportunity is far too good to pass up.
====
Flight Fourteen is now boarding, Flight Fourteen now boarding, thank you...
You take a last look out at the concrete acres outside the terminal building, filled with SUVs and Sports Coupes of all imaginable types, and a scattering of uninspiring prefab office blocks. Over the barbed wire fence, there's a black strip of the interstate highway, followed by more concrete and industrial units. Contrary to the popular phrase, it's only now that you're leaving the city for who-knows how long that you realise how grey it really is. You clutch your ticket close to your chest as you begin to step up the boarding runway.
====
After 3 transfers, you're feeling pretty shattered as you step off a steel staircase onto a dirty earthen runway. You were supposed to have been here several hours ago, but everyone knows how air travel is. After getting a cup of coffee from a small Starbucks outlet in the rustic passenger centre, you wander over to the waiting area. It's as you're just starting to think that maybe the city does have some advantages and considering leaving the terrible brew half-drunk on the cheap looking vinyl table that you notice that one of the other bored-looking travellers, who you assumed was waiting for the next flight, has a placard resting against his chair besides him with your name on it.
====
You trudge out to the small carpark, where your driver ("just Joe", as he told you smiling) points you to a battered looking Toyota four wheel drive sitting all but alone in the lot. You're just opening the back door when Joe slaps you on the back, chuckling and exclaiming "You're not in the city any more, ma'am!", urges you to come and sit up front with him. As you pull out of the lot, you figure you better apologise. You have to raise your voice a bit to be heard over the noisy turning over of the engine, but you start out awkwardly with "I'm sorry you were waiting so long."
"Oh, It's perfectly alright miss, the longer I sat around the more Issac paid me... Not to mention it gets me away from ol' Doris for a while!" he gives out a hearty laugh which honestly gives you a bit of a shock, but you manage to give an awkward grin in response. In your head though, you can't help but wonder what a state the lodge's finances are in if Issac wastes away money on extravagances like this constantly. Though, speaking of which...
"Did you say you knew Issac? Any idea where he is?"
"Ah, you just missed him! I dropped him off at the airstrip just before your flight was due to come in... Then again, your flight was three hours late, so honestly you missed him by a country mile!" He must be on his way to New York already. He did say his assistant was waiting for you, but he could have at least been here to see you on your way to running the place...
"Okay, thanks uh, Joe."
====
You get a good look at... well, cows. Lots and lots of cows, on your way to the town, and on your way through Aspen Joe points out some of the local sights and amenities to you. By the time you pull into a shady country road, you feel like you have a halfway adequate knowledge of the local area, but honestly you just want to forget it all and crawl up to bed.
"Well, here we are! I can't help but notice you'll fit in pretty well here..."
You follow his eyes over to the wooden sign protruding over the pathway. "The Aspen Furry Lodge", it reads.
"Mmm." You manage to utter, before pulling open the door handle and hopping down heavily onto the pathway.
"I think this is where we part, but you'll probably see me again sometime. I run most all of Issac's guests to the airstrip an' back."
You shake Joe's outstretched hand, responding with some pleasantries of your own, but by the time the Toyota skids off, leaving you exhausted and alone on the path, you can hardly remember what they were. It really is as beautiful as you remember it, you think, as you gaze up the small stone stairway to the lodge proper. Frankly though, you'd rather leave any further inspection than that until tomorrow.
A) Go up and find your new room so you can sleep.
B) Say hello to the residents first.
C) Other?
