You put the phone back on the cradle, musing that you might just unplug it next time. You know she cares about you, but does she really have to be such a nag?
As you pour a bowl of cereal to eat in front of the TV, you sigh and realise she's right. Ever since you got out of college, your life has been going approximately nowhere. It's just so hard to get motivated when you seem to fail at everything you try to put your hand to. She's right about the job, the 'nice boy', and allowance. Not about the ears though, ridiculous woman, you think, as you flick your long catlike tail about.
It's as you're reflecting on this that you hear a soft "thump" of a letter near the door. What if it's a reply to one of the fifty CV's you sent out!? You leap over the couch and sprint over to the letterbox, skidding to a halt infront of it.
Sitting on your couch, you inspect the envelope. Well, it's a letter alright. However, it's handwritten, which strikes you as odd if it really were a job offer. Still, you tear the paper open with your feline incisors.
"Dearest niece,
Hello, I hope you're doing well, your mother told me you just graduated from state! Congratulations!
Well, anyway, I'm writing you this because I just got offered a job as a manager at the Duchy-Carlton five star hotel in New York. As you might remember, I'm still running that country lodge you visited when you were little. Problem being, leaving now will leave the lodge without an owner! And that's how I thought of you. I know you love trying new things, and you bother to write to me occasionally, unlike your brother. Point being, I'd like you to manage the lodge in my stead, if you want to, of course. You'd get paid a good salary, of course, and you'd be staying in my rooms at the lodge. Now, I know you've never done anything like this before, and that's why my assistant is going to be staying at the lodge to help you learn the ropes.
