Introducing a so-called "environmental performance standard" (EPS) for power companies would have restricted greenhouse gas emissions from coal and gas plants and encouraged companies wishing to build to use more efficient technology.
I could also see it jacking up the price.
They believe a delay in the introduction of the standard until next year – with a few years for the legislation to pass through the house and for it to be set up – raises the possibility of new coal-fire power stations slipping through the system.
So still going through, but not fast enough or far enough. I guess laws are just supposed to be passed without thought.
In 2006 Cameron first proposed the idea, pointing to the experience of California. In June 2006, he said: "I can announce today that a Conservative government will follow the Californian model, and implement an Emissions Performance Standard.
California is the perfect example of how to run a could-be prosperous state into the ground.
Imo let the coal-powered stations go ahead, jobs > made-up environmental apocalypse.

Hunt also confirmed that the government had no plan to relax the rules on impartiality for TV news.
Asked whether Rupert Murdoch would be allowed to set up a British version of the controversial US network Fox News, he said: "Absolutely not. We have said – and I announced in opposition – that we are committed to protecting the impartiality requirements amongst the major broadcasters."
Finally, some good news...

The White House website first trumpeted the "End of Combat in Iraq" before backtracking to note that the official end of combat operations is Aug. 31.
fucking politics. Makes me sick. When you stir up insurgency you see it through.
