Kind of an unusual problem...

Okay, so I've got this friend, right? He claimed to be American, and a Catholic, for like years. According to him, he moved here when he was 8 years old from Florida. >_> However, one of my other friends recently talked to his cousin, and she tells us that he was born in Birmingham, and he's never been to the states in his life. He just put on his accent from watching too much TV. According to her, he did it to get more popular, and noticed. Now, I know what that can be like, so I'm tempted to let it slide... But he's been doing this the whole time because he thinks we're idiots, apparently... Anyway, my friend who talked to the cousin is sure the info is reliable, and strangely enough he was telling me that the friend wasn't really American before this..

So anyway, now we're in the situation where most of my friends know the guy is not for real, but he doesn't know we know. I'm the closest person to him, apparently, but I don't know what I should do. I don't want to be too harsh on him, but on the other hand I don't want to go on like nothing's happened.

Advice?

I guess this depends on how close you are. My method would be to wait until he brings it up again, and then say, "Well, how can that be? I've talked with people who claim to have known you your entire life here in England."

I'd say something like "You're not really American are you?" And persist until he admits and then blow it off.

Read up about Florida, and start asking him questions. Try catch him out. Or ask him more questions about his past and find inconsistencies. Or even make it up and say "But you told me blaa blaa, not blaa blaa." Best to do it infront of other people for maximum lulz, and to get him all flustered when trying to think straight.

Eh, not yet... My friend found it out, so really I plan to let him handle it... I guess we're gonna have to confront him.
