I like dumb jokes, especially at my expense. Go on, make a racist joke. I'll laugh, if I haven't heard it before. Uh, Ok. "Stop right there, Jew! Give me all your money!" *Jew pulls his pockets out, showing he doesn't have any* "Don't play with me!" *pulls off his yarmulke, finds a billion dollars*

Yeah, the best way to deal with things is to not get so mushy mushy for too long and lighten things up.

The thing is, he's in a lot of mental pain. He may not fuss about it, but that's because he knows his life is much better than it was. Okay, think about it this way: if you were in such a position that you got everything you wanted, what you do? How would you feel? (just answer it, trust me) I don't know. I mean I know about the whole thing about the human brain which rebalances for circmstance so you can never be truly happy no matter how good your life is... Still, I think that would be pretty cool... Don't you? Getting everything you want? Of course, then we'd be truly happy. But, here's the thing; even in THAT situation, the brain will not let you be happy. Why? Because, like you said, the brain makes up excuses or situations that make you otherwise unhappy. Being truly happy, you still can't be happy. It is how the human brain works. Nitro, your life could be much worse. Now, think about the exact opposite. Imagine you're dirt poor, your family can't afford a house, you have no food. How would THAT make you feel? Pretty shitty, right?

Well, I'm booked for a counsellor (therapist? Phychiatrist? I never know the right word) in a few weeks, so hopefully that'll help...

It's impossible to be happy all the time, how would it be possible to know what happiness was?

This is the thing, "Your life could be worse" really doesn't help anyone at all. It just makes the subject feel unimportant and like they're overreacting.

Theoretically it's impossible.
But, trust me on this one, if you just let go and live iin the present up to the minute, you can be in bliss. Yeah, it's pretty hard, I know, but it's possible.
