Let's say you decide to get a humidifier installed onto your forced air heating system, or you get a refrigerator that has an icemaker in it. In any case, you're getting a small water appliance installed for whatever reason. Obviously, you'll need a connection to your home's water system to be able to actually use it. There are a few different methods. The one that your installing contractor might want to use is a little thing called a saddle valve, and it looks something like this. Do not let your installing contractor use this piece of crap. Because they are seriously prone to leaking and making a nuissance of themselves. They also have a bad habit of never shutting off all the way. so if your appliance needs some servicing, it will be impossible to do so without simply replacing the valve with something more reliable. Seriously, have them use something with compression fittings. It's much easier on everyone that way.
