My opinions are as so:
Nintendo + Has made nearly every major innovation in the industry since they entered into it + Large library of quality first party games + Every new console release has been a significant step up from its predecessor with regard to gameplay/development opportunities + Their quality control saved the industry from drowning itself in shovelware in the NES days - They never released their iron grip on third parties after the industry recovered, leading to a steady reduction in third party support - Terrible at brand promotion - Desire for innovation before technology has advanced far enough to really allow it gave us the Virtual Boy and those silly GBA-GC link cables (FF:CC alone redeemed the latter anyway)
Sega + Had some nice first parties back in their glory days + Excellent marketing earned them a fair number of third party games, even with Nintendo already on the scene + Had the first real success at online gameplay - Endless addons and attachments destroyed consumer trust and ended them as a hardware company even with their superb Dreamcast on the way.
Sony + Stepped in as competition by making some large hardware improvements, most notably optical media's greater storage space + Being less domineering than Nintendo earned them strong third party support and spurred their initial success with juggernauts like SquareSoft (I personally could never understand the hype behind FF7 and onward, but can't deny they sold systems) - Hamfisted attempts at duplicating Nintendo's success with motion and touch controls gave us the PS Move and PS Vita - Nowadays seems content to just play footsies with Microsoft over multiplats
Microsoft - Has literally never innovated within the industry - Prioritizing graphical power over anything else significantly increases development risk at no perceptible gain - Being the reigning PC OS king, pushes consoles into a "PC-lite" framework with no concern for the console industry - Absurd system failure rates - No real exclusive games, even among first party titles - Could not have made a worse controller if they tried
What say you?

lololo microsoft literally no plusses, fucking weebs
the xbox 360 controller is excellent besides the d-pad which wasn't their fault to begin with as all the other designs were patent trolled by nintendo and sony
but anyway. All consoles are shit compared to PC master race.

Well that's what the topic is here for. What would you say in Microsoft's defence?

Well like I said I have to step up for the controller for one thing
i'm not gonna argue every point because some of them are right (the 360 is absolutely terrible in terms of reliability it's true) but here's my objections right now
Xbox Live (or whatever they were calling it on original xbox) was pretty innovative at the first release, I mean that was back in the SD era they had online multiplayer (yes I know the other consoles kinda did too but come on, it wasn't the same, you even had to buy an adapter) I'd argue they definitely gave console online a boost so every HD system had native online capability
I know you guys hate anything not an RPG but it's lolzy to claim microsoft had no exclusives, I mean Halo was kind of a big deal for a while and I think it deserved it, plus other stuff like PGR, I personally hated Gears but a lot of people did like it, and so on (i'll admit it's not as many as nintendo but it's unfair to say none)
Graphics are good, not bad, it's right to push the envelope, if it was left up to companies like nintendo the whole console industry would look today like the PS2 did back when it came out
the 360 came out way before the PS3 and was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper when it came out, that probably forced a big price slash on the ps3, remember they wanted 600 USD for it when it was first announced
anyway... I'm not gonna really defend microsoft as it is today, the shit they tried to pull with the One was unforgivable (that's also a terrible name) and I don't know why anyone bought one but to act like they contributed nothing with the original xbox and 360 is unfair.

Good tier: Consoles with exclusives I want
Shit tier: Consoles that don't
There's no reason to have a console outside of that. Also, what the fuck. Xbox controller is comfy as it gets.

Exactly, the sixaxis/dualshock (whatever they're calling it now) is just too damn small and on top of that is horrendously overpriced. Plus you can't even use it with your PC. And I'm not even going to go over again what I think about the Wii's controller/s.

I stand by my opinion of the xbox controller, the thing is way too large and the buttons aren't clicky when pressed. You can use the PS3 controller on a PC easily enough using only the USB charging cable and some drivers.
Halo had potential to be unique in a world of samey shooters, but they pissed that all away with the power of melee hits, SMG "head"shots, and the weapon pickup system. xbox live also had potential in the whole "persistent cross game lobby" thing, but failed horribly in policing their userbase or allowing user privacy; led to a general poisoning of online gaming interactions.
360 was earlier and cheaper than the PS3 because it had bullshit parts that fried constantly.
As for graphics, yeah it's good to make advances there, but not the pointless dick waving contest that leaves developers stuck footing the bill to use the blasted things or being shown the door for "looking outdated" regardless of gameplay.

Well-thought and deep points with fair consideration given to all sides involved
Nintendo: +nearly everything gamesy -Wii controller -have to use wii controller to turn on and use gamecube games -navigating more screens with each gen +SNES turns right on and you can play Super Mario World immediately -why cant we do that anymore -3 gamecubes and wii failed +none of my cartridge systems have -don't give me the Nintendonium stuff because my bros can and have found ways to break their portables (one time the DS hinge apparently snapped because the school bus hit a bump) -less instruction manual because "the internet" is just being cheap
Sony: -I don't think I've played one since Crash Bandicoot
Microsoft: +I like that it plays minecraft +I also use it for DVDs in that room -wtf game systems should just be about games and not DVDs or media centers jeez

I agree with Zetta, except I like Halo, so I'll give that to Xbox
Anyway
Sony -Decided to use optical discs for their games. Good idea in the short run. After all, the disks hold more space, right? Unfortunately they just HAD to push that with marketing.
Nintendo -Gave up the fight and conceded, beginning to use discs with the Gamecube. Also a good idea in the short run, right? Especially when you compare it to what came right before with N64, GC's discs had all the advantages.
Why do they both get -s for that? Because of the SNES. SNES Cartridges are pretty amazing. Unlike optical discs, they don't simply hold the ROM for a game. The big thing about the console that made it a darling among first and third parties alike was the cartridges themselves, and how they contained not only the ROM, but also hardware that could help run the game. The end result being that games became vastly improved over the console's lifespan. Most famous example would be Star Fox' fx chip which allowed 3D, but a lot of games had extra hardware packed onto the console.
Nowadays we're limited to just what the system can do. Games DO get more impressive later in a console's lifespan, but only because developers start pushing the console to the limits. Any time they want to do something more, they might ship an add-on. If the game is for PC, you might have to upgrade your PC.
I wish it became industry standard again to include the extra hardware needed as part of the game. Too bad Sony wanted to kill cartridges, and Nintendo forgot that was the thing that made cartridges great with the N64 (need more RAM? Buy an N64 RAM expansion yourself.)
Now a cartridge as big as the ones the SNES had would hold *so* much more space, so it's not an issue. But they won't even do that with handheld games, them cartridges just keep getting smaller.
Oh well.

nintendo has silly console names. I want them to turn into sega and just do games so I can plau mario on xbox
Sony is ok. They have some exclusive games I wanna play. Not sure which ones tho
Xbox controller is great. I like it more than mouse and keyboard. Xbl is also pretty good I get it for free so yeah
Pc is cool because you can do word processing but my computer is stuffed so -1 to them. But they have steam. I only use it for free games though

Also you guys are insane, Dualshock is the greatest controller ever tied with the Classic Controller

The classic controller is just a worse version of the 360 controller >_> (since the 360 controller is a better version of the gamecube controller)

The classic controller has literally nothing to do with the 360 controller. It's an SNES controller.
Classic Controller Pro is an SNES controller with Prongs, which is what Dualshock also is.

i thought the classic controller was just a white GC controller for wii? eh whatever, i don't care anyway
the xbox 360 pad is better not only due to the size but because the asymmetry on the sticks just feels more natural in the hand - i know that's kind of subjective but most people seem to agree with me so i'm sticking to it
