feel like I very well might start playing DMC4 a lot again or maybe just do a run or two of the bloody palace every few days anyway, if I do I'll probably stream whenever I play, although most likely without a mic because DMC requires too much to talk and play but idk we'll see
sortof want to just start streaming random shit (i.e. whatever I'm playing atm) from time to time as well idk
also need to figure out when to continue to the DkS NG+ run but that's far more organized than what any of this would be anyway just figured I'd mention it if anyone has an interest in DMC4 had a pretty damn good run as Nero on the bloody palace tonight, was exhausting though and people think Dark Souls is hard, pfff

What story is there? You play as an insane clown who couldn't stop inventing more and more ridiculous ways to juggle things. They laughed, they all laughed, and not in the good way! So now he juggles them instead!

I doubt I'll ever LP something as bad LPs annoy me and good LPs require more editing than I can be bothered with as for the DMC, it'd most likely be just doing the bloody palace, which is 100 floors of (increasingly) more difficult than normal fights and increasing difficulty enemies while also under time constraint (although time is added at the end of a floor based on performance) with a boss ever 20 floors I've yet to beat it but on the off chance you want a summation of the story anyway for the hell of it Dante and Vergil are the twin sons of the demon Sparda, who fought off Mundus and was generally a cool dood defendin' humans an' shit he married Eva (a human) and that's how Dante and Vergil came to be Vergil's the calm, cold, calculating one, Dante's the arrogant jokester DMC3 spoilers at the end of DMC3 Dante and Vergil end up fighting over The Sword of Sparda, Vergil ends up in the netherworld as a result DMC1 spoilers DMC1 involves Dante fighting off Mundus, who rules the underworld You also fight Nelo Angelo, a boss revealed to be Vergil mind controlled by Mundus, is sad DMC4 Order of the Sword is a religious group that worships Sparda and wants to kill all demons Nero is a knight of the Order of the Sword however is known for being reckless and disliked, he has a fucked up armor Kyrie is a childhood friend, the love interest, and the younger sister of Credo, who leads the knights Ceremony is going on, suddenly Dante shows up, shoots Sanctus (head of the Order of the Sword) in the face Nero is assigned to go kill Dante, city is infested with demons, and Kyrie get separated Order of the Sword is making artificial demons to fight the Demons, as well as turning their members into demons claiming to be angels Nero finds Vergil's sword, Yamato Dante toys with you a bit you kill some big demons find out Kyrie has been captured by Sanctus (he aint dead) and held inside "The Savior," a giant statue he tricks Nero, traps him and Yamato inside, uses that to power the statue and brings the thing to life with the intention of killing all the demons and taking over the world Dante's like "welp, guess I have to do something" and you go through and kill everything again as Dante and take down The Savior, then Nero finishes off Sanctus, Dante lets Nero keep Yamato
very very quick summation of things all in all the story isnt great but I enjoy it and even though I disliked Nero a good deal first time through I warmed up to the character a lot and love the speculation that his fucked up demon arm is due to him either being possessed by or possibly the son of Vergil, would have loved to see this expanded upon in DMC5 but nope, game never got made DMC2 (most likely) takes place after DMC4 and is widely regarded as bad so didnt bother with the story from that and DmC doesn't exist so don't ask about it regardless can do a summary of the combat system later but at work atm so yeah

also I could try another run of DMC4 on dmd but that scares the hell out of me because yeah, Dark Souls was a joke coming to it after finishing that

So the DMC4 combat system in a nutshell Y is melee/sword attack X is gunshot A is jump B is special/other RB is lock on LB is devil trigger LT and RT vary based on character
so universal stuff -hitting Y repeatedly will result in your standard sword combo, with Nero the timing with which you press the button results in different combos -while locked on, more moves become available. Y+RB+back, Y+RB+forward, and if you're Nero, Y+RB+back then forward are all different attacks -hitting X shoots your gun, typically for very weak damage used to juggle or time things. Holding down X charges up a charge shot, these have varying properties as Nero or Dante -A jumps, A again midair uses air hike, it's a midair jump and you get one until you land -jumping midair when at the same height as and right next to an enemy uses enemy hike. This is key for the bulk of the combat. Jumping off of an enemy counts as though you have landed, refreshing your aerial moves (some are limited) and letting you double jump again. Any move used next to an enemy mid-air can be jump canceled using enemy hike which is where a lot of combos come from. In short, lots of bouncing
Nero specific stuff: -table hopper: dodging (RB+A+direction) at the last second performs a quick dash evade rather than a roll, can be done three times in rapid succession Nero's sword: -his standard ground combo is by mashing Y, he has another involving slow presses for slow heavy swings and a third involving a pause after the first two swings and then four rapid presses -in the air pressing Y results in a multi hit combo, he has a second that spins him upward and lifts the enemy slightly above you -Y+RB+back is a launcher -Y+RB+forwards is a horizontal forward moving slash -Y+RB+back then forward is a backwards evade followed by a dash forward and heavy swing, launches enemies far -Y+RB+forward in the air streaks directly down to the ground (1 per jump from ground) -Y+RB+back then forward in the air dashes you horizontally through the air (1 per jump from ground) Nero's sword also uses the exceed system -pressing LT just as the swing passes mid strike fills one bar, pressing it frame perfect, or at the very least near frame perfect, fills all three bars -the Y+RB+direction attacks use up your exceed bars and change the attacks based on how many bars are used, fire is added and usually additional hits -every normal swing drains one bar if you have it -you fall faster for every bar you have filled Nero's charge shot (holding X) has three stages -level 1 is just a more damaging shot -level 2 charge shots explode -level three charge shots explode like a level two and then after a short delay explode again, this second explosion is usable as a launcher Nero's buster (B) -hitting an enemy with the buster does a unique and damaging attack based on the enemy but the animation tends to be long and leave you a bit vulnerable -RB+B pulls enemies to you, or pulls you to them depending on the enemy -holding B will hold up an enemy as a shield, rather than perform a buster attack, you can still do all other attacks while an enemy is held provided your fingers can pull that shit off Nero's DT -activating devil trigger as Nero cancels whatever animation you're in for hit DT animation, it does aoe damage nearby and has iframes during activation -Nero's DT involves a phantom mirroring his attacks with Yamato -while DT'd shooting Nero's gun will result in phantasmal swords (similar to DMC3 Vergil shit) at an enemy, this can be done during buster animations as well and is great for keeping enemies afloat -Y+B+RB+back while devil triggered is a slow to charge ranged attack, fires off an X and passes through enemies hitting multiple times, usually knocks down and does good damage to bosses when fully charged -Y+B+RB+forward while devil triggered is a very slow attack where Nero slowly gears up to draw Yamato, when he does if it hits he goes into a flurry of sword swipes and it does a ton of damage, slow speed means you usually need to set it up and can get screwed if you fuck up as you're stuck in a slow charging animation
Dante specific stuff: -Dante has three different swords (Rebellion, Gilgamesh, Lucifer) and three different guns (Ebony and Ivory, Coyote-A, and Pandora), they can be cycled through at any time using the two triggers -Dante can also switch between 5 different styles on the fly using the dpad (up is trickster, down is royal guard, left is gunslinger, right is swordmaster, pressing the same direction as the style you are in is dark slayer), the style you are in dictates the functionality of the B button (swords) Rebellion: -Y+RB+Back is a launch, Y+RB+forward is stinger, a forward lunging stab, Y in the air is a straight downward slice to the ground -while in sword master: B (neutral) spins the sword and launches enemies, B+RB+forward is a different ground combo, B repeatedly in the air perfors a multi hit combo that ends by knocking them away Gilgamesh: -Y+RB+back quickly pullsback and then does a straight punch -Y+RB+forward does a series of kicks -Y in the air is an angled dive kick down -while in sword master: B (neutral) is a ground slam, B+RB+back is an uppercut -all of Gilgamesh's attacks can be charged by holding the button Lucifer: -lucifer pins red energy swords in the air/enemies that can later be detonated -Y+RB+Forward pins several swords in front of you in a slight arc -Y+RB+back throws a rose out and all of the swords detonate -while in sword master you can reposition the swords that are in the air (guns) Ebony and Ivory: -mash X to rapid fire, does little damage, juggles well -holding X builds up charged shot, does extra damage -while in gunslinger, press B to fire even more rapidly, different fall speeds as a result -press B (while in gunslinger) mid air to spin upside down firing towards the ground Coyote-A: -a shotgun primarily used to knock things back -holding X builds up a charge shot, does more damage -while in gunslinger, hitting B does fireworks, flip the gun around firing everywhere rapidly, B+forward is a dash forward akin to rebellion's stinger but you fire a shotgun blast Pandora: -hitting an enemy with an attack from pandora fills the disaster gauge -X fires pandora as a bowgun, weak damage, fills gauge -X followed by rapidly wiggling left and right transforms pandora from the bogun into a bazooka, fills gauge -X followed by wiggling left and right to transform to the bazooka followed by rotating in circles transforms it into a laser cannon, fills gauge -X mid air transfors pandora into a gattling gun, brief burst of rapid fire, fills guage -while in gunslinger: -B transforms pandora into a hover ship that fires missiles, depletes gauge -B+RB+back transforms pandora into a boomerang, depletes gauge -B+RB+forward is omen, you throw pandora on the ground and it opens, light fills the screen and stuns everything in front of you, it's really slow though, depletes gauge (other styles) Trickster style: -B is replaced with a dash, can be done once in the air (twice if devil triggered). Using B to dash into an enemy mid air jumps off of them as well -B+RB+forward teleports you in front of an enemy -B when being knocked back causes you to flip and quickly recover Royalguard style: -pressing B just before beeing hit (timing has to be pretty much perfect, it's 1/10th of a second before the attack lands, supposedly, in DMC3, I cba to hunt for frame data though) negates all damage taken, can be done mid air, and fills the royal gauge -B+RB+forward releases the energy stored up in the royal gauge -B+RB+forward just before being hit results in a just release, you negate all damage, dash through the enemy, and do a ton of damage depleting the gauge -B+RB+back drains the gauge and covers you in dreadnaught armor, I never really bother with this but can be used for some clever things due to the large amount of invuln Dark Slayer style: -B repeatedly on the ground performs a quick three hit combo from Yamato, ends with a knockback -B repeatedly in the air is a two hti combo from Yamato, bot hhorizontal slashes, ends with a knockback -B+RB+forward does a dimension slash in the the distance, it hits on a plane and looks pretty damn badass, a bit slow -B+RB+back does a dimension slash directly in front of you
Dante's DT modifies some of his moves, adds damage, and lets you air hike twice While he lacks the iframes and animation canceling on activation, properly timed DT transformations allow you to do "distortion" hits. It involves transforming as an attack lands and results in the attack registering as both devil triggered and normal, multi hit attacks (like a fully charged rising dragon from gilgamesh, can be distorted multiple times for tons of damage
I can't really go into any more but that's a beginner's guide and a basic rundown an' shit idk hell of a lot more to right up than I expected so here's a preemptive "fuck you" to all those who tl,dr it

Didn't you say Dante had 5 styles, for each dpad direction and one more for the same direction twice? I only see threeeeee.

I mentioned swordmaster and gunslinger in the weapon descriptions since what they do is dependent upon the weapon (specific sword or gun respectively) out also, end result of all this is something like www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKIq2U5p1LQ which I have linked time and time again but it's good enough to warrant it

hosting a DkS FC at 6pm tomorrow, i.e. saturday (hoping for a turnout of more than 3 people) I might stream it with mic (unlikely), without mic (possible), or just let someone else stream it (also possible) so yeah, dunno

was thinking of the DkS NG+ run wanted to leave it up to you all which order I do things in so Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants, Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith, or The Duke's Archives pick an order to do the three
I'd sum up stuff about them but I don't want any of my bias to seep in since the point of this is to have the decision made based on the bias of people other than myself since I already played through the areas on NG enough in the orders I've felt like so if you must know more about them ask someone else
