desynchs are cool but they aren't what make ICs strong, the ability to KO off a single grab at any percent is what makes them top tier in melee and brawl

How does having multiple airdodges add anything to mobility. Brawl's airdodge (like it's absurdly good shield) just cater to an buff defensive play, whereas airdodging in melee was a decision with a far rougher tradeoff
Melee's airdodge is a movement ability, brawl's is not
for movement and movement alone:
Melee: run, walk, dash dance, fox trot, wavedash, short hop, full hop, waveland, roll - from the ledge: ledgedash, reverse ledgedash, ledgehop, ledge jump, roll, stand up
Brawl: run, walk, fox trot, short hop, full hop, roll, DACUS, glide toss - from the ledge: ledgehop, ledge jump (better than melee's), roll, stand up

actions that can be done out of movement option
melee run (startup can be canceled enabling dash dancing): dash attack, upsmash (JC), downsmash, downtilt, short hop, full hop, wavedash, running grab, standing grab, boost grab
brawl run: dash attack, upsmash, running grab, boost grab, downsmash, downtilt, short hop, full hop
melee/brawl walk: all
short/fullhop: all aerials, melee also has waveland or cancels into wavedash
wavedash: any ground attack, or a jump, or a dash, anything, basically
waveland: see wavedash
DACUS: upsmash only
glide toss requires an item and therefore doesnt apply to most of the cast
not to mention the fact that wavelands and wavedashes have variable lengths and that in and of itself is a mixup
not even mentioning JC-able moves in melee
I can also give you frame data for various turn speeds out of dash in melee depending on the speed of the turn

melee feels "clunky" because you have to move the analog stick farther to perform actions
it's why I cba playing PM, the jump from brawl to melee feels weird because of it

since you decided to harp on how melee is clunky and showing it's age I figure I'll harp on the other reasons brawl is absolute shit
shieldstun was substantially decreased in brawl and powershielding was made easier
rolls were buffed
airdodge was buffed
overall speed was lowered
hitstun was lowered
gravity was lowered
the result is that defensive play received 4+ buffs whereas the means to be aggressive and mixup your opponent were nerfed, the means of overwhelming your opponent were nerfed, the punishment you could get off successful aggression was nerfed
this may have been fine if aggression needed the nerf, but hungrybox and m2k show just how strong defensive play is in melee
so now you have a game where defensive play is blatantly overpowered
this means that if you want to win, which presumably everyone does because I'm not going to argue designing a game for those with a scrub mentality (like Sakurai is doing), then you camp
it becomes a game of camping, trading few blows, and trying to just get a slight edge and win
it becomes
fucking
boring

dare you to tell me brawl is the better game after dealing with safe planking MKs all day (whereas wavedash->fastfall, ramen noodles, was usable to counter melee planking like shino stalling) and buffed shieldgrabs making ICs gods

on top of the defensive buff and aggression nerf, survivability was also buffed to hell
edge guarding is crippled compared to melee due to the magnet ledges and auto sweetspots
a defensive game where you can't be aggressive against a competent opponent and can't kill them beyond blast KOs? FUN GAME AMIRITE
Brawl, on a competitive level, has a few of its own merits, I will give it that. And I can appreciate the skills required to do well at it
That being said
it is an awful game for spectators (ever show someone who doesnt play smash brawl? I have, they get bored shitless. Then show them melee and suddenly hype)
and does it even compare to the level of depth melee has? No. The mechanics of the game DO NOT ALLOW IT.
so don't you dare insinuate brawl is a better made game and melee's age is holding it back
