This episode only helped support the fact that Rarity is, indeed, best pony.

Well, Rarity is a smidge above Fluttershy, followed by Dashie slightly outweighing AJ, followed by Twilight getting just a bit ahead of Pinkie.
They're all really awesome in their own right, but I'd feel like a jackass putting everyone but Fluttershy and Rarity tied for third.

I don't think I ever gave my list... At the top stop is Fluttershy, for being the least irritating of the bunch. Likely to stand back, and not prone to gloating. Quiet and unassuming, but mess with someone she cares about, you better pray for your life. Not to mention that she single handedly came close to stopping Discord, just by being humble about herself. Plus, she takes care of ferrets. The importance of this cannot be understated. Next up, surprisingly enough to myself, is Rarity. She's a prissy snob, but is written to be more likeable and interesting than her character type deserves. Yeah, she has her moments where I want to punch her, but her presentation is done well enough to get some slack. Also, Tabitha is a fantastic voice actress. In third place is Applejack. Very much an anti-Rarity: down to earth, not afraid to get dirty, and more concerned with function than form. And formality? Stupid regulations that just get in the way of eating. Very practical and easygoing. Unfortunately, she ends up being less interesting than her character type deserves due to the writers practically forgetting about her. Tied at the very end are Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle. Let's deal with Rainbow first... Rainbow Dash's personality and be almost entirely summed up as, "Tomboy who likes to fly fast." How boring. But then after that, she's a total punk. It's amazing anyone wants to hang out with her. Twilight? Goi. Her personality is as boring as it is inconsistent. One moment she's competent at doing whatever, the next incapable of doing simple things without some book to tell her about it. I know she's supposed to be socially ignorant, but come on, there's a statute of limitations here! And when she's not that way, she's always gotta be the big hero, and always gotta be right. Almost any scene is ruined by her coming along and having the scene say, "Make way for the problem solver!" Her "diplomacy" in S1E3, her trying to intervene with Applejack in S1E4, and then the climax of Boast Busters... Crap, I sometimes wanna call her Twilight Sue for how much the universe has to revolve around her! You'll notice that Pinkie Pie is not on this list. That is because she exists outside this spectrum. She is neither high up it, nor down low on it, or even off to the side; deciding where she places is like answering, "Rocking chair!" when asked your favorite color. She's just the type to completely transcend this list. Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie, and that's all there is to it. |
