FINALLY beat Project X Zone
While there's severe dragging-on issues late-game, I got hit with the worst of it in the final chapter and it was entirely my fault.
Like I had to get a specific unit to a specific space in 15 turns. I did it in 4 but delayed it so I could kill every enemy. Whoops they respawn. Okay, I guess I'll put them in that space. Whoops more enemies spawned. Okay, kill every enemy and then target final boss. Great. Time to attack him, got him down to 1/5 of health hell yeah. Oh whoops more enemies spawned.
At that point I realized I should have just rushed it. New Game+ doesn't even let you carry over levels.
Someone on development team must have really wanted to make full use of X and Zero. They're the only characters with their own arc, getting closure with both Vile and Iris, and their dialogue adds nice details about the Mega Man X world that you wouldn't know from their games. Like in the ending, every character gets to go shopping in the main modern world before leaving as a reward for helping out. When asked if anything they got would be little more than an antique, X points out it's actually extremely important and valuable because they don't have access to many natural resources anymore in the future. Like, damn I didn't know that.

Wasted like 6 hours playing as Netherlands in Vicky 2 without understanding really what I was doing or having any power in the world. Meh.
But! Then I played again as France, having loads of fun. I mean they start as the second most powerful nation so maybe I didn't stretch myself but I am new, and now I'm on top of the world! It's 1891 and I control France (obviously), Eastern Prussia right up to Berlin and the North coast (suck it germany, you wont exist now and invade us in Hearts of Iron), and fully half of Africa. I see why they call it the scramble, it only took like 10 years after the technologies were available to the great powers and the whole continent was gone.
Then after that, the British swine insulted our international authority and one of their patrols stumbled into my territory in French Africa, so as revenge I annexed Sierra Leone AND make them admit to the international community that I had humiliated them on the field of battle. Shit was so cash.
Other weirdness party caused by me: Bavaria has become a great international power after joining in with my wars against Prussia and is not like twice the size it actually is. Italy was united... sort of, because the Papal States are still independent and cut it down the middle.
And Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Algeria, Tunisia, and more are all firmly within my political sphere of influence. Tried to get Belgium too repeatedly but the UK kept shutting me out. All the more reason to humiliate the Brits.

So I guess Slavya is the 'self esteem building' route? I can live with that. All the other girls just seem irritating anyway. Like really, I know this is Animanga inspired but all of them are not only archetypes but like exaggerated caricatures of 'shy girl', 'tsundere girl', 'annoying prank kid', etc.

The villain has enough of the protagonist undoing his evil work and attacks him, protag almost dies and is unconscious after a few days.
Protag's parents: "What kind of parents are we letting our child enter dangerous situations like that"
Oh man, they're actually bringing that up. Pokemon only brought it up once.
Parents: "OH WELL, WE CAN'T STOP HIM. BESIDES, HE'S JUST THAT GOOD RIGHT HA HA HA"
Really.
They actually even HAD a valid reason to keep letting him go out after that. After that point, the villain keeps attacking the hometown base and the dude in charge actually says outright it's safer for the protagonist to keep adventuring in the wild so he's not there when an attack happens.
