After an hour of grinding my Divine Majin grew ~700 levels (~230 - 950) lvl 1027 now |

It gets fairly ridiculous in Disgaea 3.
You can bring six characters, attacking literally only one time, to level 4000 or more from 1.
Assuming you maxed out on staticians and know Big Bang/Omega Fire and have a weapon strong enough, at least.

I already know about level limits. Is it really neccesary to do all that levelling, though?

Usually, yeah.
You can get stronger weapons first, but it's generally a lot easier with max level peeps.
The stronger the weapon the stronger you need to be to power it up.

Item worlding before the main story is over is generally a waste of time, yeah.
That or you spend too long doing it and ruin the challenge.
