"I recently bought a new mattress, decked it out all new sheets, quilt, cover, pillows, etc. My plan was to lock the door to the cat, so that he wouldn't drool and shed all over the new bedding, especially since I am allergic to cats...
But just now he looked cold and was crying at me, I patted the covers and he trots straight up to my lap and cuddles in. Then something dawned on me; a while ago, my cat was struck with urinary crystals, meaning he was reduced to pissing shards of glass, and we paid over 3 thousand dollars for an emergency vet, on credit, to just have a chance at keeping him with us, and exposing him to multiple bladder flushes and him not eating for days, nor being able to urinate.
We got him home heavily sedated, and we fostered a lot of hope for him, until days later he once again was urinating blood... We took him to the local vet, saying our goodbyes to each other, as we were already dangerously low on funds due to the emergency animal hospital bills, and so we took him to get euthanised.
The vet we usually took him to, went so far as to appologise for them not being open at the time, and genuinely sympathised with the horrible charges for his emergency care. He said he wanted to try to help, and that if it didn't work he could remove his penis to prevent the mineral build up problem but at the obvious cost of him physically and mentally. The vet told us many of the procedures undertaken by the hospital were unnecessary and could have further triggered inflammation, etc. I was so angry but it wasn't important at the time, because he had a chance now.....
The local vet charged us less 400 dollars for 3 days care and drove in on his day off in personal clothes just to make sure he would be ok resting in the pens. He gave us back a healthy, happy cat, skinny and looking worse for wear with random patches of fur shaved from his body, but he was alive (And he got to keep his penis). He came to us through adoption, and was with us for many years, and as such he is getting on in years; though his spirit is youthful, he remains a cat not too long for this world, these are his twilight years. Who am I to deny him comfort and warmth for the price of cleaner sheets and a box of telfast?
This all came to me in one tiny moment before I patted the bed and watched him pad up to me... I didn't put a price on his life, why would I ever put a price on his love?"

As long as people are starving, among other things, the price on an aminal's life is $0

Feed the starving people to the cats so that they won't be starving people.
