m.apnews.com/ap/db_289563/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=znb7GtAkRepublicans want to fix the problem and keep Obama's promise. Why don't Democrats support it? Depends. 1) low-info, utopian footsoldiers think Obamacare is already perfect and changing any Obama dictat, even one that upholds what he previously said, is sacrilege 2) the higher-ups intentionally did this to bring about a death spiral, destroy health care, make more dependents/government slaves, "never let a crisis go to waste," scapegoat insurance companies for following a terrible law, never work with Republicans on anything, etc. www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/11/07/cbs-news-obamacare-about-to-hit-employer-provided-insuranceWith his credibility shot, CBS News has apparently decided to not take President Obama's latest ObamaCare promise at face value. Now that millions whom the president reassured could keep their insurance are losing it, CBS dug into Obama's latest reassurance about the 80% not in the individual market, and also found that that's not exactly true. The truth is that a so-called "Cadillac Tax" is about to turn millions of employer-based plans into something a little closer to a "junk plan."
"If you're one of the 80 percent of Americans who is insured or covered through an employer plan or through Medicare or Medicaid, or the Veterans' Administration, there is no change for you except for an increase in benefits that everyone receives as a result of the Affordable Care Act," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday.
Yet in the years to come, some workers with employer-provided benefits will see their benefits scaled back because of an Obamacare tax. That portion of the law -- known as the "Cadillac tax" -- isn't set to take effect until 2018, but it's already influencing the benefits packages that employers offer.
From the moment ObamaCare looked like a reality, conservative think tanks and Republican lawmakers sounded the warning that millions would lose their health insurance as a result. All the media did in response, though, was to either ignore those warnings or push back on behalf of the White House and Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.
The effect ObamaCare will have on the employer-based market -- over a hundred million people -- is not limited to this Cadillac Tax. The White House itself estimated that tens of millions could be dropped by their employers and shoved into these ObamaCare exchanges. This could mean losing your doctor and having your health care options limited in a traumatic way, especially if you are already ill.www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/07/white-house-website-at-odds-with-latest-obama-statement/White House website at odds with latest Obama statement
Millions of health insurance plans have been cancelled after ObamaCare went into effect, and President Obama backed away Monday from his previous oft-repeated statement that “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan.”
But he may want to glance at his own website, WhiteHouse.gov, which still states: "For Americans with insurance coverage who like what they have, they can keep it. Nothing in this act or anywhere in the bill forces anyone to change the insurance they have, period."
That appears in a section of the WhiteHouse.gov website labeled "health reform details." The exact same language also appears in the Department of Health and Human Services' online description of the law.
“Even though millions of Americans are getting cancellation notices in the mail because of the President’s health care law, the White House website still promises that Americans can keep the care they like," Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., who is also an orthopedic surgeon, said in a statement to FoxNews.com.
"If the President was being honest, he would finally tell the American people that his law won’t allow them to keep their coverage, premiums won’t be cheaper than a cell phone bill, and the website won’t be as easy to use as Amazon. It’s time for the White House to tell the truth – instead of doubling down on dishonesty,” Barrasso added.www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/07/delaware-reports-4-enrollments-under-obamacare/More than a month after the launch of Delaware's health insurance exchange, officials report only four Delawareans enrolled for insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Government Accountability Institute (GAI) President and Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Peter Schweizer told Lou Dobbs on Monday that some of President Barack Obama's top fundraisers are cashing in on the Obamacare debacle through crony contracts funded by taxpayer dollars.

The city in which 41 percent of pregnancies end in abortion has elected a new mayor who is pledging to partner with Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to expand their businesses even further by providing them with “city-sponsored” space to set up shop.
Bill de Blasio...also pledged to help abortionists wipe out their main competition – pro-life crisis pregnancy centers – which he refers to as “sham” clinics. These centers offer women financial and logistical assistance to either keep their babies or place them with adoptive families.
LifeSiteNews reported that de Blasio expressed his view that since crisis pregnancy centers refuse to perform abortions, they do not offer “legitimate health care.” He has promised to continue the city’s appeal of a court order striking down a law aimed at closing down these centers.
Should the court appeal fail, however, de Blasio states he will “craft new regulations to prevent [crisis pregnancy] centers from masquerading as legitimate health care providers.”
De Blasio said that, in order to ensure a sufficient number of abortionists to meet the high demand, he will also continue to force doctors who train in city hospitals to perform abortions as a routine part of their training. The mandate is a NARAL-backed program that began under Mayor Michael Bloomberg and which de Blasio referred to as “groundbreaking.”
To make sure women can pay to have abortions, de Blasio has pledged to use ObamaCare to expand state-funded abortion coverage to more New York City women.
A self-described “democratic socialist,” de Blasio traveled to the Soviet Union as a student and honeymooned with his wife, in violation of the travel ban, in Cuba.
The mayor-elect spent many of his early adult years traveling to Nicaragua, where he supplied the Communist Sandinistas – whom he called “really inspirational” – and their allies with funds and food while working with the Quixote Center, a Maryland-based leftist Catholic group that once referred to American opposition to Communist leadership in Nicaragua as “spreading terrorism.”I miss Bloomberg before he's even gone. www.foxnews.com/health/2013/11/07/fda-to-ban-artery-clogging-trans-fats/?intcmp=latestnewsThe FDA plans to announce later Thursday that it will require the food industry to gradually phase out all trans fats, saying they are a threat to people's health...FDA officials say they have been working on trans fat issues for around 15 years - the first goal was to label them - and have been collecting data to justify a possible phase out since just after President Barack Obama came into office in 2009.Oh brother.

On October 29, CBS News reported that over 2,000,000 Americans had received health insurance cancellation notices due to Obamacare.
On November 4, the Associated Press reported that at least 3,500,000 Americans had received health insurance cancellation notices due to Obamacare.
On November 7, Fox News reported that 4,200,000 Americans had received health insurance cancellation notices due to Obamacare.
Obama has tried to downplay the wave of cancellation notices.
"We're talking about five percent of the population," said Obama Thursday night. You might recall what good ol' Uncle Joe said about tragedies vs statistics. However, if the cancellation surge continues to swell, the number of Americans whose health plans are canceled could actually exceed the seven million people the Obama Administration seeks to sign up for Obamacare.
Indeed, according to the Wall Street Journal, as many 10 million Americans may receive health insurance cancellation notices before the March Obamacare enrollment period ends...Obama promised no less than 36 times that if Americans liked their health plan they could keep it after Obamacare was implemented.www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/11/08/dc-obamacare-numbers-show-5-people-signed-up-for-exchange/While President Obama continues his cross country pitch on the merits of his landmark health care law, dismal new data shows only five people in the D.C. area have signed up for the Affordable Care Act – or ObamaCare.
The enrollment data from the four health insurance companies participating the D.C. exchange was released Friday by Republicans Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Orrin Hatch of Utah.
“A lot of Americans are getting cancellation notices from their current health care plan but they haven’t been able to enroll in a new plan,” Grassley said in a written statement. “The limbo and uncertainty are stressful for them, as they’ve been describing in emails to my office. The chaos imposed on so many people is reason to at least delay the individual mandate, if not outright appeal it.”www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/11/08/720-Americans-Leave-Labor-Force-in-October720k Americans Leave Labor Force in October
This exodus pushed the labor force participation rate down to 62.8%, the lowest level since 1978. One out of three adults is neither working nor actively looking for work...the better than expected jobs number fell short of keeping pace with population growth.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics, responsible for compiling the jobs report, has told CNBC that the government shutdown "categorically" is not a factor in the labor market exodus. It never really made any sense that furloughed workers would be counted as leaving the labor force, but we now have confirmation they weren't. The 720,000 workers leaving the labor force is one of the largest exoduses in history.www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/11/08/obama-pivots-to-economy-for-20th-timeObama Pivots to Economy for 21st Time
With his poll numbers dropping almost as fast as his credibility, President Obama has decided it is once again time to pivot his focus away from the disastrous ObamaCare rollout and towards his slightly less disastrous economic recovery. For the 21st time in just five years (which averages out to once every 3 months -- the last time was less than 2 months ago), the White House announced Thursday that "President Barack Obama will try to shift the national conversation to economic growth."

Netanyahu called it “the deal of the century for Iran” but a “very, very, bad” deal for the international community. The Israeli leader said he learned about the parameters of the agreement when he met with Kerry on Thursday at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv before he left for Geneva.
“I reminded him that he said that no deal is better than a bad deal,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “That the deal that is being discussed in Geneva right now is a bad deal. It's a very bad deal.”
Iran, Netanyahu said, is not required to dismantle even one centrifuge yet the U.S. and the international community is providing sanctions relief for the first time in years.
“Iran gets everything that it wanted at this stage and it pays nothing,” Netanyahu said. He said the sanctions regime in place now is “why Iran is under severe pressure.”online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303936904579178201737694182The transformation of American liberalism over the past half-century is nowhere more apparent than in the disputes now roiling a relatively obscure section of upstate New York. In 1965, as part of his "war on poverty," President Lyndon Johnson created the Appalachian Regional Commission. Among the areas to be served by the commission were the Southern Tier counties of New York state, including Broome, Tioga and Chemung. The commission's central aim was to "Increase job opportunities and per capita income in Appalachia to reach parity with the nation."
Like so many Great Society antipoverty programs, the effort largely failed...Beginning about a dozen years ago, remarkable improvements in natural-gas drilling by means of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, seemed to promise a way out of poverty. The massive Marcellus Shale Formation under New York and Pennsylvania has proved to be "the most lucrative natural gas play in the U.S.," Business Week recently noted, because the shale produces high-quality gas and is easily shipped to New York and Philadelphia.
In Pennsylvania, a state long familiar with carbon production through oil drilling and coal mining, Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell backed fracking during his tenure from 2003-11, and the state has experienced a boom in jobs and income. Between 2007 and 2011, in Pennsylvania counties with more than 200 fracking wells, per capita income rose 19%, compared with an 8% increase in counties with no wells, as petroleum analyst Gregg Laskoski wrote for U.S. News & World Report in August.
In New York, the potential natural-gas bonanza has been stillborn. Political support for fracking came largely from Southern Tier landowners scratching out a living on land much of which has been left fallow. These supporters sometimes referred to the environmental benefits of natural gas as opposed to coal. But their core argument was that fracking offered the only chance to rescue a dying region. Many landowners were being crushed by the heavy burden of New York's high taxes—among the highest property taxes in the nation—and by regulation that made it hard to eke out a living from small dairy herds.
The landowners have been no match for an antifracking coalition that drew on the liberal well-to-do and celebrities...Fracking is occurring in 31 states and has been approved for California and Illinois. But in New York, the antifrackers turned opposition to fracking into a litmus test for liberals.
Five years later, the supposedly temporary ban to allow the study of health and regulatory considerations remains in place. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who took office in 2010, last year floated a compromise. The areas near the reservoirs for New York and Syracuse, the liberal gentry of Ithaca and the wealthy retirees of Cooperstown would be able to maintain the status quo. The 100 towns that had passed local bans on fracking would have their wishes respected. Mr. Cuomo would have confined fracking areas to sections of the Southern Tier Counties of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Steuben and Tioga. In those areas, the shale is deep within the earth and there are no aquifers—even antifracking activists would have a hard time finding a threat to the water table.
The proposed compromise might have seemed reasonable. But the antifrackers who had demonized the gas industry responded with a resounding, no...Great Society liberalism had, for all its faults, an ideal of inclusiveness. The environmental anti-industrial liberalism is implicitly organized around exclusion. Environmentalism, with its powerful not-in-my-backyard and not-in-your-backyard currents in upstate New York, has become an ideological cover for the pursuit of self-interest. New York's liberals are fighting to preserve the status quo, poverty and all.www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24862356Tesla shares are hit by a fire involving the Model S

The first paragraph in the FDA’s announcement regarding this development states:
"More than a decade ago, a sea change began in the American diet, with consumers starting to avoid foods with trans fat and companies responding by reducing the amount of trans fat in their products."
So, what’s the problem?
The market and consumers responded to health concerns regarding trans fat. According to the FDA, consumption of PHOs “has declined dramatically from 4.6 grams per day in 2003 to about 1 gram per day in 2012.” Thus, even assuming that reducing the consumption of trans fat is a legitimate public health goal, a reduction in trans fat is being achieved already.
Consumers can make informed and voluntary choices as to whether to consume trans fats. The FDA also already mandates trans fat nutritional labeling. This ban is a solution in search of a problem. Yet the FDA is taking this extreme action when alternatives are proving to be successful.
The ban could mean higher food costs as manufacturers and restaurants seek alternatives to using trans fats. Ironically, saturated fat could be a widely used replacement to trans fat—trans fat was supposed to be a “healthy” alternative to saturated fat. The ban could also affect other important aspects of our food, since trans fat helps with taste and extending the shelf life of food.
This is a ground-breaking action. The FDA is not trying to ban an ingredient that is unreasonably dangerous. A person doesn’t eat a corn chip with trans fat and then die...
The FDA is trying to control what people eat. This isn’t even about behavior modification anymore, since the public has already modified its behavior in a way that meets the government’s wishes. The FDA is now playing the role of nutrition activist and ignoring the most important issue: the freedom of Americans.www.foxnews.com/world/2013/11/08/bible-drop-christian-group-takes-to-sky-to-sneak-gospel-into-north-korea/?intcmp=latestnewsBible drop: Christian group takes to sky to sneak Gospel into North Korea
The balloons, made from a large sheet of "farm plastic," said Foley, are filled with hydrogen before the Bibles and "tracts" – testimonials written by other North Korean Christians – are attached at the bottom inside a sack or box. Timers are then used to release the materials in stages, dispersing them at high altitudes across North Korea. Foley and members of his Christian mission group, Seoul USA, use GPS technology to help direct where the Bibles land. Around 50,000 of them have dropped from the skies in the last year.
"They are the most persecuted believers on earth," Foley said of North Korea’s estimated 100,000 Christians – 30,000 of whom are believed to be locked inside concentration camps, where they are overworked, starved, tortured, and killed. Other activist groups, like Open Doors USA, estimate that number to be even higher, reporting that the secretive nation has about 400,000 Christians.
In North Korea, the practice of Christianity is illegal. Owning a Bible is a crime, and any person caught with one is sent – along with three generations of his or her family – to prison. Foley said despite the risks, demand for Bibles is strong within North Korea. His group targets rural areas where they might be picked up discreetly, he said.
Foley, who is in his late 40s, founded Colorado-based Seoul USA in 2003 with his wife, a South Korean who immigrated to the U.S. in 1984. The two, along with other members of their group, launched their first balloon -- strapped with Bibles -- from South Korea in 2006...The balloons also include tracts, or testimonies, written by other North Korean Christians -- some of whom managed to flee to South Korea -- about Christ.
"The North Koreans respond very well to story," Foley explained, "Because all are required to memorize 100 stories" related to Kim's ideology.
In addition to supplying religious materials by air, Foley's group produces short-wave radio programs with North Korean defectors reading the Bible. He said about 20 percent of North Koreans own radios, which are illegal.

I guess if they're going to all that effort they could just drop food or anti-government literature that actually gives the facts about the regime instead of a book that contains the passage 'Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God', but okay sure whatever, religions gonna religion.

I believe that article (and the FDA) makes a distinction between natural and artificial trans fats, so that's just not the case. online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303763804579183713385661566The torrents of Affordable Care Act monsoon season aren't letting up, so Democrats are scrambling to help the victims: namely, their own careers. The Senators up for re-election in competitive states in 2014 are starting to panic, though they still aren't offering solutions for anything other than their own growing political jeopardy.
Fifteen Senate Democrats plus Colorado's Michael Bennet who chairs the Senatorial Campaign Committee sat down at the White House Wednesday, and they want all and sundry to know that they let President Obama have it. Alaska's Mark Begich put out a statement saying he chewed out the big cheese for "absolutely unacceptable" mismanagement and "an understandable crisis in confidence." He must have drafted it in advance.
Oregon's Jeff Merkley chimed in to report that even after the two-hour encounter session that was not on the public schedule, he was still "very frustrated" and "I remain deeply convinced that this is a 'show-me' moment." Asked by Politico if Democrats were losing credibility, an anonymous attendee said, "You got to have it, to lose it."
Mr. Obama held their hands and told them not to worry. But that's also what he, Bill Clinton and other horse whisperers said in 2010. The "moderates" who made the Nancy Pelosi majority went on to be wiped out in the largest turnover of House seats since 1938.
Mr. Obama then comforted the party regulars that all would be well once the exchanges launched. That day arrived, sort of, since the website doesn't work. He's now urging Democrats to keep calm because the public will love it once the subsidies start to roll out. Yet insurance is being cancelled, premiums are surging and patients like Edie Sundby can't keep their doctors.
Meanwhile, the Salesman in Chief has been exposed for his fraudulent promises. Before October Mr. Obama's rhetoric seemed desperate like Shelly Levene in "Glengarry Glen Ross," repeating discredited assurances that few believed. Now it seems somewhat sinister as he tries to falsify his history of false claims.
All of which has the ObamaCare Dozen—the Democrats who each cast the decisive 60th vote and are running for re-election in 2014—fleeing for political cover. We offer a list of the dozen nearby, and they're right to worry that voters might punish ObamaCare's implementation as they did its passage. But so far the 12 are trying to pull off nothing more than confidence tricks.
The Shaheen and Landrieu proposals are merely ploys for these Democrats to distance themselves from ObamaCare while still embracing it. But they can't have it both ways. Either they can vote to take down the whole regulate-subsidize-mandate apparatus for a year and propose major reforms to prevent a reprise of the last six weeks. Or else they will be enablers of the current and future disruptions, cancellations and limited health choices.
The ObamaCare Dozen are receiving an overdue education in the damaging consequences of the bill they supported, all of which were predicted by critics in 2010. Any one of these Senators could have prevented the current madness by voting no. And now the President they empowered to govern from the ideological left has rejected even their de minimis fixes and is promising to "grind it out" even if the problems get worse. These Senators deserve to be held accountable at the ballot box.www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2013/11/09/chuck-todd-obama-does-not-believe-he-liedNBC's Chuck Todd: Obama 'Does Not Believe He Lied'
NBC's Chuck Todd scored a huge interview with President Obama Thursday and opened things by immediately drilling down on the president's relentlessly repeated lie that under ObamaCare you can keep your current insurance plan if you like it. The full interview is even more impressive than the clips that have been going around. Even after he elicits a "sorry" from Obama, Todd keeps after the point for almost ten minutes.
Ultimately, though, Todd came away with the impression that Obama doesn't believe he lied. And Todd is probably right, which is a little unnerving...Here is Todd's entire quote:
"You know, he does not believe he lied on this, and that’s the sense I get. I mean, I think that that’s, he’s taken issue with that before with folks off the record, and I got it’s a sensitive issue, felt like he did not sit there and say he intentionally lied. He said that he wanted to, he thought he was going to be able to keep this promise. I thought what was revealing in that answer, when I asked him that direct question about this, was this a political lie that you started to believe it, was he talked about well, you know, it turns out we had trouble in crafting the law."
If Obama has convinced himself he didn't lie, that borders on pathological. We now know that as far back as 2010 the president knew eight to nine million people would lose their health insurance. We have him on video admitting to that...that video is the smoking gun equivalent of finding video of President George W. Bush admitting he knew all along that Iraq had no WMD.
And yet, straight through the 2012 election, Obama continued his campaign to reassure the American people that they could keep their insurance. Period.www.truthrevolt.org/news/weekly-standard-french-socialists-tougher-iran-obama-adminWeekly Standard: French Socialists Tougher on Iran than Obama Admin
Citing reports from Haaretz Newspaper’s Barak Ravid, who described France as the “most hardline” at the negotiations in Geneva, and AP’s Matt Lee, the Weekly Standard highlights what is becoming increasingly clearer each year of Obama’s tenure: this administration wants the world to know that it will not fight the hard fights.
In fact, it seems to be more than willing to help those who most seek to do us harm. As we learned this week, the Obama administration is so eager for a deal with Iran that it is not only pushing to ease the very sanctions that have forced Iran to negotiate in the first place, it’s unilaterally easing up on them already. As Heritage's James Phillips reported...The balance of power on the international stage is shifting, and the Obama administration is doing everything in its power, both openly and behind the scenes, to undermine America’s influence.www.weeklystandard.com/articles/republican-task-no-obamacare-no-iran-nukes_766421.html?utm_campaign=Washington+Examiner&utm_source=washingtonexaminer.com&utm_medium=referralThe Republican Task: No Obamacare, No Iran Nukes
Watching the Obama administration at work this week, a friend offered this judgment: Under Obama, Iran keeps its nuclear program and Americans lose their health insurance.
Historians and political scientists will have much to say, after its collapse, about contemporary liberalism’s propensity to be at once tough on American citizens and soft on Iranian mullahs. Today’s liberals are pleased to use the power of the state to nudge—not to say bully—their fellow Americans, while shunning the exercise of power abroad, preferring to accommodate—not to say appease—the nation’s enemies. It would seem to be a paradox.
Or perhaps not. Aren’t the bossy often insecure? Aren’t bullies often cowards? Those who throw their weight around when they aren’t resisted often shy away from confrontation with those who won’t yield. A fatal conceit at home can be the flip side of a fatal loss of nerve abroad.
This is a moment that reveals the bankruptcy of contemporary liberalism. It’s also a moment of truth for American conservatism...the immediate task of American conservatives: resistance to the nanny state at home and the enemies of freedom abroad.
Now is surely the time for the Tea Party and the establishment to put aside some of their differences for the sake of their party, and their country. In light of the threats we face at home and abroad, now is surely the time for Republicans to hearken to the words of that great friend of American liberty, Edmund Burke: “When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.”www.truthrevolt.org/news/why-john-kerry-inciting-violence-palestinian-tv During his trip to the Middle East to revive the struggling peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Secretary of State John Kerry agreed to a joint interview with Israel's Channel 2 and the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation. Aired Thursday, Kerry took a one-sided and threatening tone toward Israel, including some very undiplomatic words which could be used to incite new violence against the Jewish State.
"Failure of the talks will increase Israel's isolation in the world. The alternative to getting back to the talks is a potential of chaos. I mean, does Israel want a third intifada?
"I believe that if we do not resolve the issues between Palestinians and Israelis; if we do not find a way to find peace, there will be an increasing isolation of Israel...if we don't end the presence of Israeli soldiers perpetually within the West Bank, then there will be an increasing feeling that if we cannot get peace with a leadership that is committed to nonviolence, you may wind up with leadership that is committed to violence."
Intifada is an Arabic word meaning “shaking off the yoke." It has been used to describe a violent uprising in 1987-1993 and a terror war from 2000-2009 that killed 1,178 Israelis, 70% of them civilians, in over 20,000 attacks that included 144 suicide bombings.
There are many issues with Kerry's words, not the least of which are that they appeared on the Palestinian TV run by a government which, as recently as the end of October, explained they glorify terrorists because terrorists are role models.
Was Kerry trying to give the Palestinians an excuse to launch additional terrorists attacks?
And what of the Palestinians, who as of this date has refused to consider territorial compromise, refused to recognize Israel as the Jewish State, and still believe all of Israel is occupied Palestine? Where was Kerry's criticism of their "peace efforts?"Has Kerry joined Hamas or what? www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/11/09/Wind-turbines-blamed-in-death-of-estimated-600-000-bats-in-2012Wind turbines killed at least 600,000 -- and possibly as many as 900,000 -- bats in the United States in 2012, researchers say.online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304448204579185720802195590Germany Reinvents the Energy Crisis
A love affair with renewables brings high prices, potential blackouts and worries about 'deindustrialization.'
ObamaCare isn't the only policy train wreck in progress. Like Mao urging peasants to melt down their pots, pans and farm tools to turn China into a steel-producing superpower overnight, Germany dished out subsidies to encourage homeowners and farmers to install solar panels and windmills and sell energy back to the power company at inflated prices. Success — Germany now gets 25% of its power from renewables—has turned out to be a disaster.
As Germans rush to grab this easy money, carbon dioxide output has risen, not fallen, because money-strapped utilities have switched to burning cheap American coal to provide the necessary standby power when wind and sun fail.
Because the sun and wind are intermittent and the power grid is poorly arranged to accommodate them, brownouts and blackouts threaten this winter.
Because the bills are paid by households and businesses, electricity rates are triple those in the United States. An immediate panic is jobs, as prized industries head to the U.S. for cheaper energy unleashed by the shale revolution. Europe's top energy official now speaks frankly of the "deindustrialization in Germany."
Europe's energy crisis is a lot like ours of 40 years ago — self-inflicted...The big question now is how far will the political upheaval go when an entire elite is implicated in an unsatisfactory energy experiment, which inevitably has become wrapped up in public disappointment with another failed elite project, the European Union itself.

Also just scrolled up, fucking lol at the hysterical tone of Heritage article equating banning trans fat to 'attacking the freedoms of americans', those people are fucking insane, it would be funny if it weren't for the fact that the oligarchs subscribe to their dogshit ideology

What else to call it? It's a pretext for banning anything else the FDA doesn't like.

it's the right wing's attempt to marry any kind of government oversight to their supporters' paranoid masturbatory fantasies of FEMA putting everyone in camps that I find irritating, you don't have to actually argue when your audience is sufficiently programmed that you can just bring up phrases like 'infringing the freedoms of americans' and they will then be too distracted by their massive persecution-erection to actually consider any other possible points of view than 'far right psycho' (not that they would anyway)

Banning trans fats because you don't like them is a Bloomberg move. They note the public is perfectly capable of making choices on their own, but even if they're in agreement with what the FDA wants the agency seeks a ban anyway. Don't they have better things to do? Apparently not. Well, this is what happens with any government program, it has to keep making up new problems so it can expand. No need to be funded if they can't find any problems, after all.

The public are stupid, especially when it comes to entertaining themselves to death, I mean hell even my diet is awful
Government programs are not inherently bad, oftentimes they're the best way to achieve some good end

Liberal parenting = government

it seems like an obvious comparison and to extent it is fair, liberal parents (or mine anyway) most of the time support when needed, set boundaries when needed (ie danger), but largely let kids get on with things and let them set the direction of their own lives, as opposed to conservative parents who boss around and push, punish with an iron fist and make themselves the ones directing their kids, maybe that's why conservatives have such an irrational fear of government, they don't know that a power relationship can be benevolent rather than just closed fisted 'tough love'.

lol at liberals letting people get on with their own lives. The trans fat ban is from the same guy who wanted to ban certain cup sizes. It's nanny state stuff.
