Been thinking bout this for a bit, figure it might be fun. Had a couple with people from pH and had a few laughs. Not actually sure what'd be the best to use for it, I figure skype might work if it supports multiperson video conferencing, there's also tinychat, although I've had issues with them once before, and I've no idea what msn supports since I use pidgin in place of windows live messenger whenever possible (and I'm sure there are plenty of other options if anyone really wants this to happen)
Anyway, if anyone's interested, and at what level (i.e. do they have a webcam, just a mic, or only sitting on text chat) let me know what day and time might work (and it'd be helpful if you specified if you're talking about your timezone or converting it to EC US to save some trouble) and hopefully we can pick a night and time that works out for everyone
I'd be able to hop on a cam and mic (depending on the time, if it's very late and my roommates asleep I wont be talking because that's just rude) pretty much any night outside of monday (unless it's past 8pm, in which case go for it, I'll just be drained of energy) and late Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday (i.e. days when I have to wake up at 7 the next morning), also I can't make promises about Friday/Saturday since walmart runs tend to take place on one of those nights
All in all whether or not this happens doesn't matter much to me, but I figure it may be fun and you may be interested. It's been a laugh with buddies from pH, so if you're interested, yeah

Pyro poking everyone to turn their cam on is one thing, but Laharl doing that is something else.
Also, an actual webcam night is unlikely for us since not many have a webcam. On top of my head only I, Jake, Ferret and Laharl have one. Might have missed some.
I think a mic/text chat is more likely than a cam one.
On the matter of what program to use, Skype is the best to use, period. It's also the only one supporting group video/mic chats that I know of. MSN only supports group text chats.
Even though I mostly won't participate this *coughshyandtimezonecough*, I'm available every weekend during the day. Except this weekend, I'm not home then. What's the UTC of the EC US timezone by the way? >_>

EC US is GMT -5 but people seem to forget that GMT doesnt account for daylight savings time so that makes it 6 hours off of GMT and it makes the UK one hour off, regardless, it's 6 hours earlier than in the netherlands
as for why I'm bringing this up, I'm starting to have a hard time understanding any awkwardness or hesitation, or even what the big deal is, we've existed as a group for over 2 years now
also I'm starting to make less distinctions between people I know in person and buddies on the internet as the lines become increasingly blurred (for example, I spend more time physically talking with buddies of mine at pH (via mumble) than I do most of my friends (as we can only get together so often and I can hop on my pc and chat on mumble daily) [that being said, there are still many other variations in personality compared to physically being in the same vicinity of someone, but it's still closer than text chat which is closer than delayed responses to forum posts etc etc]
I also feel like there's still enough separation for "being shy" to not be as large of an issue, but idk
regardless, I don't care all too much if this happens, I just figured I'd bring it up in case any of you were interested

Might be an hour or two later because of laziness. Then I'll be able to cam/talk till 3-4pm GMT -5 at latest. ....We're together for over two years already?! o___O Geez, a lot has happened here.... Pffft, kids need to get out more and get less attached to the internet. Sure it isn't bad to have buddies on the internet, but making them almost equal to rl friends is just dumb, stupid and fubar. nope |

There's no reason not to have both and how is it fubar? It's no real different from a pen pal of sorts, once people get past silly internet attitudes and personas there's no real difference between talking to a friend of mine on aim or the phone and talking to people on msn or chatting on mumble
yeah you need people to actually spend time in the presence of and actual friends you can fully communicate with (i.e. communicate in person with) but my big issue with people's perception is the "it's the internet," well it's no different from any other form of communication if you treat it as such, it's a step towards a more globalized society
but this isnt the time nor the topic for this debate

You have to pay money to use multivideo chat with skype. Voice chat is free.

But nowadays people go as easy as "oh hey I saw in one of your post on x forum that you like y, I like that, we're BFF!" And THAT is the fubar part, you can't just make friends like that, plus you never know who you're actually talking to. Unless you, like with pen pals, actual spend time with them and get to know them more, but that's kinda hard and unrealistic if you go and make a thousand "friends". Really, if it hasn't been for the 2+ years we've been together I wouldn't even have trusted you guys. >_> |

I don't get what the difference between someone on the internet and a penpal is except penpals can only talk to each other in long stuffy letters and never get to engage in real conversation.
