Nope, those direct downloads are the same as downloading from megaupload/multiupload/etc. The only difference is the server where you're downloading from.
So unless you have some kind of browser plug-in that allows pausing and resuming direct downloads, you'll have to stick with continual downloading.

Mozilla Seamonkey and Firefox, Opera, and probably recent versions of Internet Explorer all support resuming of direct downloads, so long as the server also supports it. Since those direct download links are non-expiring, they should support resuming.
